Fifth Annual Faculty Authors Reception Highlights Faculty Publications
Faculty across UT Austin were celebrated on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at the Faculty Authors Reception, an annual event created to honor faculty members who published books in the previous calendar year (2023). Faculty from 14 colleges and 41 departments participated, representing 61 books and 53 authors.
âThe books and the sheer range of information really highlights the breadth of the faculty here at UT and itâs something I enjoy being able to highlight,â shared Provost Sharon during opening remarks at the celebratory event.
Deans, associate deans, department chairs and other campus leaders attended the event to learn more about faculty published works from the previous year, and had the opportunity to see scholarship from a wide breadth of fields across disciplines. Faculty submissions highlighted different areas of expertise, forays into creative writing, and expressions of impactful art. Some of the works delved into improving teaching and learning abilities, told stories of the past through various lenses (such as the arts, ethics, language, philosophy, politics, and religion), and even looked toward the future, examining areas of education, media, and technology.
During the celebration, President Jay Hartzell spoke about the remarkable display of scholarship, passion, and grinding work reflected in the faculty publications. He added: âYour published works remind us just how much our extraordinary faculty have to offer our students. These publications demonstrate to our students and our prospective students that when they come here to learn, they are learning from some of the most accomplished scholars in every field.â
To take part in the 2025 annual reception, faculty members will be notified during the fall semester to submit their publications.
