Provost Event Celebrates Faculty Book Authors at UT

Faculty across UT Austin were celebrated on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at the Faculty Authors Reception, an annual event created to honor faculty members who published books in the previous calendar year (2022). Faculty from 13 colleges and 43 departments participated, representing 66 books and 63 authors.

“I continue to be inspired by the number of books published by our faculty every year. Faculty authors make a huge commitment in terms of effort, time, research, and care that culminates with the publishing of a book, “ shared Provost Sharon during opening remarks at the special evening.

Deans, associate deans, department chairs and other campus leaders attended the event to learn more about faculty authors and celebrate this important stage of their work.

During the celebration, President Jay Hartzell spoke about the sheer depth of knowledge and intellectual diversity and talent showcased within the books. He added: “Books are a way to scale your talent. Books are a way to scale your ideas. It’s a way to take what you’ve thought about, generated, discovered, learned and share it to the world at large.”

Faculty authors will be featured throughout the year in the Main Building. In order to take part in the 2024 annual reception, faculty members will be notified during the fall semester to submit their publications.
