Pulitzer Prize Awarded to History Professor Emerita

Jacqueline Jones, professor emerita in the College of Liberal Arts at UT Austin, has been awarded the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for history for her book “No Right to an Honest Living: The Struggles of Boston’s Black Workers in the Civil War Era,” published by Basic Books.

Four Graduate Students Win at 2024 Empower Your Pitch Competition

Four graduate students took home awards at UT Austin’s inaugural Empower Your Pitch competition. This campus-wide research communication competition is sponsored by The Graduate School, the Graduate Coordinators Network and Texas Career Engagement.

John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Names Classics Professor as 2024 Fellow

The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation has named University of Texas at Austin classicist Andrew M. Riggsby a 2024 fellow. Riggsby is one of 188 fellows chosen from a pool of almost 3,000 applicants on the basis of prior career achievement and exceptional promise.

4 UT Scholars Join American Academy of Arts and Sciences

Four faculty members from UT Austin will be inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the oldest learned societies for independent policy research.


Faculty Central is the new online hub for faculty resources. As you use the site, please ask questions and offer suggestions through the site’s feedback form, located in the footer.

Tenured and Tenure-Track Faculty Promotion Candidates: Dossier Prep

The provost’s Faculty Affairs team will be holding an information session focused on the creation of promotion dossiers for tenured and tenure-track faculty candidates up for promotion and tenure review this coming fall, 2024. Please share this information with any tenured and tenure-track faculty promotion candidates and encourage them to attend. Staff involved in the promotion process for tenured and tenure-track faculty are also welcome to attend. This particular faculty session is not intended for Dell Medical School promotion and tenure candidates.

This session will be held over Zoom on Wednesday, May 22 from 2:00-3:30pm. Join us!

Call for Professional Track Peer Networking Facilitators and Themes

The Professional Track Peer Networking Circle Program seeks new discussion facilitators and themes for the upcoming 2024–25 academic year. Professional-track faculty interested in gaining leadership experience are encouraged to apply. Those interested in serving as facilitators must apply by 5 p.m. CST on Tuesday, May 21. Selected facilitators will receive a $1,500 stipend for each semester they moderate a circle discussion. Selected facilitators will be notified in June 2024 and will work with Faculty Development to launch their circle at the beginning of the fall term.

2024 Aspiring Leaders Academy – Call for Applications

The Aspiring Leaders Academy is now accepting applications for the upcoming academic year. Professional track faculty, and tenured associate and full professors interested in pursuing future leadership roles are encouraged to apply. Interested faculty must submit an application by 5 p.m. CST on Monday, June 10, 2024. Those selected will be notified in July 2024.

IC2/Dell Med Designing Artificial Intelligence to Mitigate Health Disparities

The IC2 Institute, in partnership with Dell Med, offers one-year awards of up to $75,000 for selected projects with a single Principal Investigator (PI) from any UT College or School, or up to $150,000 for selected projects with two (2) or more PIs/Co-PIs. In multi-PI projects, at least one PI must be a Dell Med researcher. The IC2 will primarily manage the application process, provide funds for these proposals, and oversee the execution of projects. Projects that include a Dell Medical School faculty member, resident, or fellow as a PI will be co-funded by Dell Med.

Harrington Symposium on Optical Methods in Quantitative Bio-Imaging

This one-and-a-half-day symposium has a theme of applications in bio-imaging that include a significant portion of optical innovation. The single-track meeting will consist of 17 distinguished invited speakers, as well as students, postdocs, and researchers. Additionally, there will be an engaging poster session, to enable young scientists to present their work and add further depth to the exchange of ideas and insights. The symposium will be on June 27-28 in the Gary L. Thomas Energy Engineering Building. If interested in attending, please register by June 13. There is a registration fee of $75 for all attendees.
