2023 Inaugural Members of the Aspiring and Research Leaders Academies

This past spring, the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost (EVPP) launched two new programs to proactively prepare faculty for future leadership positions—the Aspiring Leaders Academy and the Research Leaders Academy.

Both opportunities were developed in recognition of our emerging academic leaders among faculty. Our academic leaders guide the strategic direction of the University by creating and fostering innovations in research, scholarship and teaching.

In developing these two new programs for faculty talent development, the University has placed significant emphasis on addressing the skills needed to succeed as an academic leader.

This fall, we are excited to welcome 15 faculty fellows in each inaugural cohort of the Aspiring Leaders Academy and the Research Leaders Academy.

The Aspiring Leaders Academy focuses on tenured faculty who are interested in leadership opportunities, but have not yet served in a major leadership position. The Aspiring Leaders Academy combines pedagogy with practice by pairing faculty fellows with an existing university leader to work collaboratively on new and existing initiatives.

The Research Leaders Academy is in partnership with the Office of the Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Creative Endeavors. It is designed for established principal investigators (tenured or professional track faculty, or research scientists) who aspire to lead, or who are already leading, large-scale research initiatives. Faculty fellows will learn how to scope a large-scale, shared scholarly vision with colleagues, how to secure external support to realize that shared vision, and how to successfully implement and manage their vision.
