New Course Evaluation System Live This Fall

Dear Faculty,

This past summer, our Academic and Faculty Affairs teams led a pilot of the new Course Evaluation System (formerly Course-Instructor Surveys), and this fall, the university is introducing the system as the sole evaluation platform for all UT courses.

The new system features an updated set of core questions for instructors that were recommended by the UT Faculty Council and further revised based on important feedback from the pilot. You can review those questions here. Additional new features include Canvas integration, live student response-rate monitoring, and an option for faculty to add survey questions from an item bank.

To help you learn more about the system and how to implement it for your classes this fall, we will host three virtual training sessions. I strongly encourage you to participate. The links for registration are included below.

Training Dates

Other Key Dates

  • November 2 – November 12, 2022, window for faculty to select optional questions
  • November 17 – December 8, 2022, window for students to complete evaluations

The goal of the new course evaluation system is to drive teaching excellence and support continuous improvement in teaching and learning experiences. I want to thank Julie Schell and the Office of Academic Technology for the outstanding effort put forth to bring the new course evaluation system to life.

To learn more about the course evaluation changes, please visit the new website. You can also email course-evals@utexas.edu directly with questions. The new system was also discussed extensively at the October 17 Faculty Council meeting. A detailed presentation, along with responses to questions from the faculty, are posted here.

Sincerely,

Sharon L. Wood
