About the Award

The Leona Lota Harris Endowment recognizes the excellence of full-time professional-track faculty with a focus on clinical and health sciences contributions in their research, teaching, leadership, mentoring and/or service.

Nominee Qualifications

Eligible faculty applicants must:

  • Be a full-time mid-career professional-track faculty member who must
  • Work in the clinical and health sciences area, and must be in the research, clinical or practice title series
  • Hold an appointment at the associate or full professor rank
  • Have served a minimum of three (3) academic years as a 100% FTE professional-track faculty member at UT Austin at time of application
  • Not concurrently hold another major endowment in the same academic year as the Leona Lota Harris endowment
  • Not hold a primary appointment in Dell Medical School


Note that priority consideration will be given to eligible professional-track faculty whose primary appointment is in the School of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, School of Social Work, College of Education, Department of Psychology, School of Human Ecology (Public Health), or the Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences Department.


The faculty member must have demonstrated evidence of excellence in their UT Austin faculty health sciences or clinical work through any of the following contributions including, for example:

  • Clinical training, or
  • Research, scholarship, creative endeavors, or
  • Directing or managing major curriculum redesign or significant course improvement, or
  • Leadership service
  • All contributions must be focused in the area of health sciences / clinical work

Nomination Materials

Faculty must be nominated for the endowment by their supervisor (chair, director or dean).

Supervisor (materials provided separately by supervisor):

  • Nomination form and
  • Narrative of support (up to 500 words maximum)

Nominee (materials provided separately by nominee):

  • Nominee form,
  • CV (4-page maximum), and
  • Nominee statement (2-page maximum)

Award Amount

$4,000 salary supplement*

*amount may vary based on endowment income
