UT Austin has now made it easier for students to apply for and utilize their Hazlewood benefits. The Office of the Registrar recently launched a new online application portal for the Hazlewood exemption. This online portal removes potential barriers for students by eliminating a lengthy paper process and saves students time.
The Hazlewood Act is a state of Texas benefit that provides qualified veterans, spouses, and dependent children with an education benefit of up to 150 hours of tuition exemption at public institutions of higher education in Texas.
“The Office of the Registrar is always looking at ways to improve our service to students and help them achieve their educational goals,” said Brenda Schumann, interim registrar at UT Austin. “The new Hazlewood Exemption Application portal will make it easier for students to apply for the exemption and begin receiving their benefit.”
Students must complete an application for each semester or term they want use the Hazlewood exemption. Applications for the Spring 2019 semester can now be submitted using the new online application portal.
The Office of the Registrar will begin accepting Summer 2019, Fall 2019, and Spring 2020 Hazlewood applications during the Spring 2019 semester.
