AUSTIN – On Monday, April 25th the University Co-operative Society and The University of Texas at Austin will host the Seventeenth Annual University Co-op George H. Mitchell Awards ceremony, where this year’s winners will be announced.
The Grand Prize winner of the Student Awards for Academic Excellence will take home $10,000! Three others will take home $3,000 each and three others - $2,000 each. The finalists will find out on Monday who wins the grand prize.
The University Co-op George H. Mitchell Awards honor undergraduate students who have demonstrated unparalleled dedication and achievement in their fields of study. All awards are faculty-nominated and the selection committee consists of a diverse group of faculty members.
This year’s awards ceremony will also serve as the retirement celebration for the long-serving president and CEO of the University Co-op, George H. Mitchell, after whom the awards were named. Mr. Mitchell is retiring after leading the University Co-op through phenomenal growth for 29 years.
Cheryl Phifer, the new president and CEO and Michael Hasler, the Chairperson of the University Co-op will host the event.
Local media representatives are invited and encouraged to attend the dinner and the ceremony.
