AUSTIN, Texas — Toni Wegner has been appointed Chief Operations Officer for Project 2021, an initiative at The University of Texas at Austin to develop next-generation undergraduate programs through course design, technology integration and rigorous evaluation. Prior to her appointment, Wegner was the Managing Director for Research Administration and Intellectual Capital, and the Director for Research Computing Services at Harvard Business School.
Her appointment begins immediately.
"Toni Wegner is a force of nature when working with large and complex educational systems,” said James Pennebaker, Executive Director of Project 2021. “Her outstanding teaching and research credentials will be extremely valuable to our team as we work to create, implement and evaluate new teaching and learning methods across campus.”
As Chief Operations Officer, Wegner will focus on developing ways to measure gains associated with different teaching strategies. She will also coordinate the development of online, experiential, and other experimental educational methods across different levels of the university.
“I am delighted to be returning to UT Austin and to be working with Jamie Pennebaker and the Project 2021 team,” said Wegner. “This is an exciting time to be in higher education. The time is right to re-envision the learning experience using innovation, technology and research metrics. Project 2021 will change the undergraduate experience for our students.”
Wegner was an award-winning faculty member at The University of Virginia for ten years before moving to Harvard Business School. She is a native Texan who received her undergraduate degree from Trinity University in San Antonio and her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from UT Austin.
