I am excited to announce that Larry Singell will serve as the next senior vice provost for resource management, effective July 1, 2019.
Larry comes to UT from Indiana University Bloomington where he currently serves as the executive dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. There, he administers one of the largest comprehensive liberal arts colleges in the country, including more than 70 departments and degree-granting programs that span the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. The college is the oldest and largest academic unit of Indiana University Bloomington, with more than 1,400 faculty members and 12,000 graduate and undergraduate students.
During his eight years as dean and executive dean, he introduced a divisional structure and established three new schools. The college engaged in more than a dozen major construction projects under his leadership, including the construction of the 142,000-square-foot Global and International Studies Building and extensive renovations of many iconic buildings on campus.
Larry currently serves as a member of the editorial board of the Economics of Education Review, the leading journal of the economics of education. He also serves as the co-chair of the Big Ten Academic Alliance for Arts and Sciences Deans. In his scholarship, he has explored how education intersects with opportunity and choice, with particular focus on the economics of higher education.
Larry will succeed Dan Slesnick, who since 2010 has provided strategic fiscal stewardship supporting numerous academic priorities and issues. As many can attest, Dan is an invaluable member of our leadership team, and I have benefited tremendously from his wise counsel and expertise.
I am confident we have chosen a tremendous asset and colleague in Larry. Please join me in welcoming him to the UT community.
