Reminder: Big XII Faculty Fellowship Program Opportunity

The University of Texas at Austin participates in the Big XII Faculty Fellowship Program to stimulate scholarly initiatives and collaborations among the universities of the Big XII Athletic Conference. Provided that travel restrictions related to COVID-19 are lifted during the 2022-23 academic year, the program will offer faculty the opportunity to travel to member institutions to exchange ideas and pursue collaborative research. Faculty visits will ordinarily be for one or two weeks, but shorter or longer visits are possible. The visitor’s home university provides financial support for the visit. Applications are due Thursday, June 30, 2022. For questions, contact Marvin Hackert at m.hackert@austin.utexas.edu. Apply here.

New Deadline: The Graduate School Academic Enrichment Fund

The Graduate School is accepting applications for the Academic Enrichment Fund for the 2022 – 2023 academic year. The fund was created to enhance the graduate educational experience by funding lectures that are a part of workshops, graduate courses, seminars, exhibitions and academic conferences at UT Austin. All faculty members are eligible to apply. However, only individuals and organizations who have not yet received funds will be considered during the first submission cycle. Funds are primarily awarded to cover travel, accommodations and honoraria for guest speakers. All application materials must be submitted through the Graduate School awards portal by Friday, July 15, 2022. For questions, please contact Danielle Geraci Thoma at d.thoma@austin.utexas.edu.

Accepting Applications: Grant for ACUE Teaching Course

UT System is awarding grants for 30 full-time instructors to participate in the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) Effective Teaching Practices course. This year-long professionally facilitated asynchronous course gives you the opportunity to learn about, implement, and reflect on research-based teaching practices as you teach. After completing all course modules, you will be awarded a Certificate in Effective College Instruction that can be included in your CV, LinkedIn, and promotion file.

The ACUE course is co-facilitated by UT Austin’s Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and the Moody College Center for Advancing Teaching Excellence (CATE) staff. The next cohort starts the week of August 8, 2022. Applications are due Friday, July 1, 2022, and final cohort selections will be made no later than Friday, July 15. Learn more. Email Michelle Gaston (michelle.gaston@austin.utexas.edu) or Kate Osmond (kate.osmond@austin.utexas.edu) with any questions.

Preferred Pronouns in Workday

UT Austin employees can now specify their pronouns in Workday. Everyone can update their pronouns on the Change Personal Information screen. Pronouns are only visible to those who hold support roles in each unit, such as HR representatives. This means an employee’s managers and coworkers will not see their pronouns unless they take additional action. Workers who wish to make their pronouns publicly visible can initiate a Change Public Profile Preference task and select Show to All.

Employees can update their pronouns in Workday using the Edit Personal Data – Workday Instructional Guide or by following the steps in the Update Pronouns in Workday entry in the askUS Knowledge Base. If you do not see your pronouns in the list, contact askUS@austin.utexas.edu.

Fall 2022 Semester Date – Monday, August 22

Due to changes to the academic calendar, fall classes will begin on Monday, August 22. In previous years, classes began the Wednesday before Labor Day. Please note the change and plan accordingly for your return to campus.

Wishing you some relaxation time and relief from Texas heat this summer. If you have any faculty-related questions, concerns, and solutions please feel free to contact the Faculty Affairs team. We’re here to support you in any way we can.

Stay well,

Tasha Beretvas
