Introducing TX24 – our new First Year in College students

Dear faculty colleagues,

On behalf of the First Year on the Forty Task Force and the Office of Admissions, we write to share with you information about our First Time in College (FTIC) students, the Class of 2024—or, TX24. Our FTIC class was selected from a highly talented and competitive group of over 57,000 applications, with representation from Texas, the United States, and across the world. TX24 is composed of extraordinarily talented students that gain admission to colleges and universities across the country; and with so many college options, we are thrilled that they have chosen to enroll at UT Austin.

Thank you to the many faculty who have participated in TX24 new student recruitment and enrollment events (in-person pre-Covid, and online this spring and summer). Your contributions have made a strong impression on our students and impacted their decision to enroll at UT Austin—a survey of our incoming students indicates that our academic programs and our renowned faculty are prominent factors in our students’ decision to enroll at UT Austin.

As you may know, TX24 students bring to campus a diversity of experiences, backgrounds, and talents—across many areas of academic interest and this year, we are particularly pleased to share that our incoming class is increasingly more diverse, with record enrollment of African American/Black, Latinx/Hispanic, and first generation students.  What our first year students have in common is a commitment to their education and their future. Despite the circumstances and challenges many students and families have encountered, they remained focused on their education and on taking the next steps to achieve their dreams.

We know our incredible students will benefit from all that you have done to create an exceptional learning environment this fall (whether online or in-person). Your efforts make it possible for our new students to have every opportunity to contribute to, and benefit from, all that UT has to offer.

Thank you for all you do.

Sincerely,

Miguel Wasielewksi, Director of Admissions and the First Year on the Forty Task Force

Rachelle Hernandez, Senior Vice Provost for Enrollment Management and Student Success, chair, First Year on the Forty Task Force Chair

Kathleen McElroy, Task Force Communications Chair, Director, School of Journalism and Media, G.B. Dealey Regents Professor in Journalism, Moody College of Communication
