Dear Colleagues,
After serving for six successful years as Senior Vice Provost for Resource Management, Dr. Larry Singell has decided to return to the faculty in the LBJ School of Public Affairs upon the completion of his term on Aug. 31. I want to thank Larry for his dedication and strategic counsel and congratulate him on the significant impact he has made while leading our University’s budgeting, space-planning, and institutional analytics functions for four provosts.
I am extremely pleased to announce that Dr. Kate Calder will join the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost as our new Senior Vice Provost for Academic Administration and Planning, effective Aug. 16. Kate has served as Chair of the Department of Statistics and Data Sciences in the College of Natural Sciences since 2019. She brings a strong record of effective cross-disciplinary collaboration, positioning her well to develop solutions that address the academic and research needs of the entire campus community.
Before joining the UT faculty in 2019, Kate spent 16 years at The Ohio State University as a professor in the Department of Statistics, and during 2018 and 2019, she served as co-director of the Mathematical Biosciences Institute. She currently serves as an Associate Director of UT’s Population Research Center. Kate received a Ph.D. and M.S. in statistics and decision sciences from Duke University and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Northwestern University. She is a fellow of the American Statistical Association, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Her research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, and other federal agencies and foundations.
I am grateful to have such a talented, energetic, and experienced academic leader joining the Provost’s Office leadership team.
Please join me in congratulating Kate on her new leadership role and thanking Larry for his outstanding contributions to our University.
Sincerely,
DAVID VANDEN BOUT, Ph.D.
