Dear UT Community,
I am pleased to inform you that Dr. Justin Dyer, professor in the Department of Government, has been appointed Interim Dean of the School of Civic Leadership, effective immediately. Since last year, Dr. Dyer has served as Executive Director of the newly established Civitas Institute and held the Jack G. Taylor Regents Professorship at The University of Texas at Austin.
As the University’s newest school, the School of Civic Leadership will develop interdisciplinary programs across campus to educate the next generation of civic leaders. Through his role as Interim Dean, Dr. Dyer will lead efforts to cultivate and advance the school’s mission to establish world-class, transdisciplinary academic programs that offer new opportunities and scholarship around teaching and research.
Before Dr. Dyer’s appointment at the Civitas Institute, he served as a professor of political science and the Founding Director of the Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy at the University of Missouri. At the Kinder Institute, he successfully brought together students and faculty members to study and discuss the ideas and events that led to the founding of the United States and their global relevance today. He is the author of five books, and he serves on the editorial board of the journals American Political Thought and Political Science Reviewer. After receiving a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Dyer earned both a master’s and Ph.D. in government here at UT Austin.
I know that Dr. Dyer will be exemplary in his new role. Please join me in congratulating him on his appointment as Interim Dean.
Sincerely,
Sharon L. Wood
Executive Vice President and Provost
