Dear UT Community,
I am extremely pleased to announce that Heather Woofter, Director of the College of Architecture and the Graduate School of Architecture and Urban Design at Washington University in St. Louis, will join The University of Texas at Austin as our next Dean of the School of Architecture, effective August 15.
As the Sam and Marilyn Fox Professor in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University, Heather is a nationally recognized leader with a history of success and impact — both in industry and academia. Her practice converges in the media, arts, and cultural fields, and she explores the relationship between research and practice — reimagining the discipline through related writing, exhibition, and collaboration. She is a passionate educator who teaches the Practices course for first-year students, as well as advanced design studios at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
A registered architect, Heather is the co-design principal of the practice Axi:Ome in St Louis. She has also worked with Bohlin Cywinski Jackson in Pennsylvania, Marks Barfield in London, and Robert Luchetti Associates in Massachusetts.
Prior to her tenure at Washington University, she was an assistant professor at Virginia Tech. She has also held visiting professor appointments at Konkuk University in South Korea and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece. She earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Virginia Tech and a Master of Architecture degree from Harvard University.
I want to thank the search committee for its work identifying an exceptional pool of candidates. Heather will be a tremendous leader and will continue to advance the School of Architecture’s position as one of the very best in the nation.
I also want to thank Michelle Addington for her outstanding service as Dean over the past six years. Dean Addington has been a passionate leader and has had a significant impact on our University. Please join me in congratulating Heather on her appointment as Dean and thanking Dean Addington for her leadership and service!
Sincerely,
Sharon L. Wood
