Two UT Austin Faculty Members Honored for Excellence in Teaching and Innovation

Nathaniel Brickens, professor of trombone in the College of Fine Arts and Janice Fischer, professor of molecular biosciences in College of Natural Sciences and director of the Biology Instructional Office, were named recipients of the 2021 UT System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award.

The University of Texas System Board of Regents established this annual award in 2008 to honor extraordinary classroom performance and innovation. This year was especially competitive with only 15 awards given across all UT System institutions.

“We have some of the most brilliant minds on campus teaching our students, and this recognition is particularly special. These two faculty members created an exemplary learning experience during one of the most challenging years in recent history” said senior vice provost of faculty affairs, Tasha Beretvas.

Recipients of the Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award receive a medallion, certificate, and monetary prize of $25,000. The awards will be celebrated virtually at a Board of Regents meeting in November.
