Institutional Accreditation

Statement of Accreditation

The University of Texas at Austin is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, master’s, professional, and doctorate degrees. The University of Texas at Austin also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels. Questions about the accreditation of The University of Texas at Austin may be directed in writing to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097, by calling (404) 679-4500, or by using information available on SACSCOC’s website.

Note: As of September 1, 2026, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) began doing business as (dba) The Commission on Colleges and Universities. This change does not affect the accreditation status of any member institution, including UT Austin. Throughout UT Austin’s website, you may also see the organization referenced as “The Commission.” Please contact the Office of Assessment, Research, Evaluation, and Accreditation (AREA) at area@utexas.edu if you have any questions regarding this change.

2028 Reaffirmation of Accreditation

The University of Texas at Austin’s accreditation is reaffirmed on a ten-year cycle by The Commission on Colleges and Universities. UT Austin’s most recent reaffirmation of accreditation took place in 2018.

Reaffirmation is a multi-year process in which UT Austin must demonstrate compliance with the Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement in a Compliance Certification Report.

Review by The Commission includes an off-site peer evaluation of compliance, an on-site peer evaluation of compliance, and a final review by The Commission’s Board of Trustees. For more information about The Commission, please visit https://commissioncu.org/
