Councils, Committees and Other Campus Groups

Councils, committees, and other campus groups are working in advisory and advocacy capacities to improve faculty diversity, inclusion, and equity. Development of best practices and policy recommendations for recruitment, retention, and advancing faculty members who are racially, ethnically, gender, or in other ways diverse is an example of the critical service contributed by group members.

disABILITY Advocate Program

The disABILITY Advocate Program takes partners on campus who are ready and willing and provides them with knowledge, tools, and skills to be ABLE to work more effectively and confidently with people with disabilities. The disABILITY Advocate Program promotes understanding and awareness about disabilities in oder to create a more inclusive environment for people with disabilities at The University of Texas at Austin.

The Coalition of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officers

The Coalition of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Officers is currently a group of 13 individuals who oversee and advise their deans on matters of diversity, equity, and inclusion for faculty, staff, and students, and lead initiatives for their colleges/schools.

Diversity & Inclusion Committees

As part of the University Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan, all colleges and schools formed a Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Committee in the fall of 2016. These committees are charged with developing plans to assess the state of diversity and inclusion locally, and include recommendations to improve diversity and inclusion for their faculty, staff and students.

Council for Racial and Ethnic Equity and Diversity (CREED)

CREED began its work in Fall 2015 to fulfill its mission to advise the provost on best practices in recruiting, retaining, and advancing faculty members who are racially, ethnically, gender, or in other ways diverse. CREED also works in collaboration with colleges and departments to develop initiatives and programs to improve the campus climate for diverse faculty.

Council for LGBTQ+ Access, Equity, and Inclusion (Q+AEI)

Q+AEI held its inaugural meeting in May 2019. Q+AEI will work to fulfill its mission to advise the provost on best practices in creating and maintaining a racially and ethnically diverse faculty where gender and sexual differences are safe and welcome at the university, and will support the development of programs to improve the campus-wide climate and institutional reputation for equity relating to gender and sexuality, including queer people of color.

University Faculty Gender Equity Council (UFGEC)

The University Faculty Gender Equity Council annually conducts an analysis of faculty salaries to document gender pay inequities. The council also conducts an analysis of gender inequities in time to promotion for tenure and to full professor and the number of endowments given to male versus female faculty. Additionally, the council presents best practices for creating an equitable and inclusive environment for faculty.

Gender and Sexuality Center (Women and LGBTQIA+)

The mission of the Gender and Sexuality Center (GSC) is to provide opportunities for all members of the UT Austin community to explore, organize, and promote learning around issues of gender and sexuality. The center also facilitates a greater responsiveness to the needs of women and the LGBTQIA+ communities through education, outreach, and advocacy.
