Call for Stories – First-Gen Longhorns Faculty Spotlight

The First-Gen Longhorns team is looking to spotlight new members of the first-generation community on their  recently redesigned website.  First-Gen Week (November 6-10) is fast approaching, and they want to show students that first-gen faculty and staff are a fundamental part of our campus and a strong and proud part of the UT family. Your story could be key!

The submission form is hosted on Microsoft Office 365 and, therefore, will require a log-in with your university Microsoft account. Submitting to the form does not guarantee publication.

Center for Teaching and Learning Updates

The CTL October newsletter included updates for the first full month of the semester. Highlights include the following:

Writing to Learn: Teaching Writing to Enhance Learning
Part I – Oct. 11 & Part II – Oct. 18 | SZB 4.102 | 9:30-11 a.m.
Join our two-day workshop focused on enhancing student engagement through writing as a learning tool. Learn strategies for integrating writing into your courses to foster critical thinking and improved writing skills. Gain hands-on experience and peer feedback to enhance your courses.
Image, Text, Code: Exploring Generative AI Tools and Outputs
Oct. 16 | 3-4 p.m. | Online | RSVP
As the use and understanding of the wide range of generative AI tools becomes more pervasive, the ways in which educational institutions talk about and value these tools will continue to become clearer. In this session, a small panel of UT instructors, graduate students, and staff will talk about their use of these tools in specific input/output formats. Please RSVP by Friday, Oct. 13th in order to receive the link to the session.
Mid-semester Feedback
Mid-semester feedback lets instructors “check the pulse” of their class partway through the semester. By surveying students, especially after a chance to evaluate evidence of learning, instructors and students alike can gain practical and actionable insights about what is working as well as recommendations for improving learning and teaching.

If you have any faculty-related questions, concerns, and solutions please feel free to contact the Faculty Affairs team. We’re here to support you in any way we can.

Stay well,

Tasha Beretvas
