Applications Open for New Faculty Development Programs
Led by Professor Alison Preston, Vice Provost for Faculty Development, the Faculty Development team has collaborated with individuals and offices across campus to develop and launch several new programs designed to support the professional growth of faculty at every career stage. Below are several new programs that are accepting applications.
- Accepting Applications: Aspiring Leaders Academy
In the Aspiring Leaders Academy, midcareer faculty who are interested in leadership opportunities, but have not yet served in a major leadership position, will receive structured counsel from internal and external academic leadership experts. Faculty in the Aspiring Leaders Academy will also be paired with an existing university leader, with whom they will work together on new and existing initiatives. For questions, please contact utfacultydevelopment@utexas.edu. Applications close on Monday, June 5 at 5:00 pm CDT. You can learn more and apply here. - Accepting Applications: Research Leaders Academy
The Research Leaders Academy is a new program designed for established principal investigators (tenured or professional track faculty, or research scientists) who aspire to lead, or who are already leading, large-scale research initiatives. The Research Leaders Academy will be run in partnership with the Office of the Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Creative Endeavors (OVPR) and is specifically geared toward developing research leaders. Participants will learn how to scope a large-scale, shared scholarly vision with colleagues, how to secure external support to realize that shared vision, and how to successfully implement and manage their vision. For questions, please contact utfacultydevelopment@utexas.edu. Applications close on Monday, June 5 at 5:00 pm CDT. You can learn more and apply here. - Accepting Applications: Professional Track Peer Networking Circles
Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to the pilot program, we are expanding Professional Track Peer Networking Circles for 2023-2024! We are inviting applications for professional track faculty facilitators and circle themes. Each selected faculty facilitator will receive a $1,500 stipend for each semester that they moderate a circle. For questions, please contact utfacultydevelopment@utexas.edu. Applications close on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 5:00 pm CDT. Learn more and apply here.
Applications Open for Texas Global programs
- Accepting Applications: Dr. Cécile DeWitt-Morette France-UT Endowed Excellence Fund
Texas Global is pleased to announce a new Faculty Research Seed Grant competition to promote research collaborations with institutions in France. Sponsored by the Dr. Cécile DeWitt-Morette France – UT Endowed Excellence Fund and the Embassy of France in the U.S., the grant supports faculty with peer collaborators in France to conduct research in the STEM fields. Interdisciplinary collaborations with social sciences are encouraged. Applicants may request seed funding of up to $10,000 to propose a new research project. The deadline to apply is Friday, July 14, 2023. Please direct any questions to txglobal-grants@austin.utexas.edu. - Accepting Applications: President’s Award for Global Learning
There is still time to apply for the President’s Award for Global Learning! Faculty teams submit proposals that address topics in a global context, support project-based student teams with coursework, and are informed by collaboration with international partners. Faculty teams receive $5,000 to support student projects and class activities, and individual faculty members each receive an $11,000 honorarium. Faculty and students also receive fully-funded travel as part of the award. We encourage you to attend a faculty information session and join the Canvas page to facilitate connections. Email presidentsaward@austin.utexas.edu with any questions. The deadline to apply is Monday, June 5, 2023.
Reminder: Planning for Fall 2023 finals
Faculty designation of final exams (“final exam reporting”) for Fall 2023 courses will open July 24 and last through August 4. However, you may share your Fall 2023 final exam plans now with your final exam scheduler. Early reporting (confirming whether you plan to offer a final exam) ensures accurate final exam information is captured for Fall 2023. In accordance with the latest academic calendar guidelines, we will publish Fall 2023 final exam schedules on the first class day, August 21, 2023.
Information about default regular exam periods and uniform/makeup exam periods for Fall 2023 can be found on the Final Exam Information page. For questions related to final exam scheduling, please reach out to your final exam scheduler or scheduling@austin.utexas.edu.
Reminder: Qualtrics Surveys Soon Required to Meet Accessibility Standards
Qualtrics users are encouraged to review their surveys to see if they need to be redesigned to meet accessibility standards. To meet these standards, survey layouts should be changed to the Simple Layout. After May 22, inaccessible surveys won’t be published. For help reconfiguring a survey or for other technical help with Qualtrics, email its-survey@utlists.utexas.edu.
If you have any faculty-related questions, concerns, or solutions, please feel free to contact the Faculty Affairs team. We’re here to support you in any way we can.
Stay well,
Tasha Beretvas
