A New Home for the Center for Teaching and Learning

Dear Faculty,

As we approach the end of the spring term, we wanted to share some exciting news about a new location for the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL). Beginning in the fall 2023 term, CTL will be located on the third floor of the Perry-Castañeda Library (PCL).

By virtue of this new, renovated location — and through a closer connection to our libraries’ resources and staff — faculty will have access to both the knowledge and expertise available from CTL to support the creation of high-quality learning experiences and the already established resource hub that is our UT Libraries system. Instructors will now be able to align work at CTL with co-located access to the Lebermann Media Lab, the Digital Scholars Lab, universal Learning Lab classrooms, the University Writing Center and information and guidance on Open Education Resources — to name a few.

There are so many ecoregions in our giant state. The opportunity to come back to the state where I had fallen in love with biology was one I couldn’t pass up.

Both CTL and UT Libraries were essential partners during the pandemic when their timely assistance helped the university navigate through new modes of instruction and effective online teaching. Recent collaborations between the units include advancing the awareness of open education resources on campus and developing a resource about AI tools in higher education (“5 Things to Know about ChatGPT”). This new location for CTL will continue to strengthen the relationship between both units and encourage a cross disciplinary approach.

We wanted to share the news before summer to give you time for planning the next academic year. During construction in the space, PCL may have new hours of operation. Please be sure to check the PCL website for updated information.

More details about the official opening of CTL’s new location will be shared closer to August. We look forward to seeing both faculty and staff benefit from this new location and enhanced collaboration.

Sincerely,

Art Markman, Ph.D.
