Updates on New Faculty Development Opportunities

Dear Faculty,

This past May, the president and provost announced two new faculty development programs to promote faculty growth and success as part of the university’s strategic plan, Change Starts Here. As promised, we are pleased to share additional information and next steps around the Faculty Development Leave and Faculty Development Award programs.

The Faculty Development Leave (FDL) program provides tenured faculty with paid leave from teaching and service responsibilities. Commonly referred to as a “sabbatical” at other universities, this program will allow faculty to dedicate their time to research, scholarship, and creative endeavors. The Faculty Affairs team in the provost’s office will be hosting a general information session about the FDL program. Information about the virtual information session is as follows:

Virtual FDL Information Session:
Monday, August 15 at 11:00am-12:00pm CST
Join Zoom Meeting https://utexas.zoom.us/j/99133739088

The Faculty Development Award (FDA) program is a program for mid-career and senior professional-track faculty that provides up to $10,000 to support professional development opportunities and activities for each awardee. The Faculty Affairs team in the provost’s office will be hosting a general information session about the FDA program. Information about the virtual information session is as follows:

Virtual FDA Information Session
Friday, August 12 at 11:00am-12:00pm CST
Join Zoom Meeting https://utexas.zoom.us/j/99133739088

Applications for both programs will open on Friday, September 2, 2022. More information about the specifics (eligibility, application content, etc.) for each of these two programs can be found on the FDA and FDL web pages including the general guidelines for UT Austin as well as some college/school-specific guidelines.

We are very excited to launch these new faculty development initiatives and look forward to supporting the critical work that our faculty do. If you have any questions about FDA and FDL, or other faculty development opportunities, do please join us at the relevant information session listed above.

Sincerely,

Tasha
