Dear Class of 2020,
I am excited to share plans for a long-delayed in-person commencement to celebrate your graduation from UT Austin. We were not able to safely hold your in-person commencement. We know this was very disappointing for many students and their families, but we are hopeful conditions will improve as the vaccine becomes more widely available.
Assuming the prevalence of COVID-19 is lower later this year and conditions allow, we will hold a university-wide commencement ceremony for the Class of 2020 on Friday, September 17, 2021. Activities will also include a celebration of the Class of 2020 during the Longhorn football game against Rice University on Saturday, September 18. Tickets will be available at reduced prices for graduates and guests. More information will be shared with you in the coming months.
Please hold these dates and plan to join us on campus to honor your accomplishments. Events will also include lighting the UT Tower orange and fireworks above the Tower in celebration.
Next Steps
You will receive more information in the coming months. All graduates will be asked to RSVP for this event to help us coordinate our planning. The safety of our students, visitors and the staff who produce these events is imperative, and we will take every step to hold these events in a way that is safe and responsible.
Sincerely,
Dan Jaffe
