Connecting Scholars to Opportunities

Presidential Scholars is a prestigious program for students attending The University of Texas at Austin who have outstanding high school achievements and financial need. Students are awarded an annual scholarship as well as additional funding to participate in an enrichment program during their four years at UT Austin. They are part of a community of Scholars, which provides additional networking opportunities, while attending the University. This unique program is an important way for the University to recruit the highest caliber students from across Texas.

"Through the Presidential Scholars program, our students grow professionally and personally, becoming leaders who help maintain our university's reputation as one of the best public research universities in the world."

- Gregory L. Fenves, President, UT Austin

The program encourages student success and career preparation through financial support, campus networking, and an individual opportunity scholarship. Presidential Scholars are enrolled in all colleges and schools within UT Austin and also may be members of honors programs and other university organizations and communities.

Presidential Scholars is not a substitute for a student’s major, or co-curricular, communities. Instead, the Presidential Scholars program is meant to supplement and support a student’s experience.

Financial Support

To support their studies at UT Austin, all Presidential Scholars will receive at least $5,000 annually - $20,000 over the course of their undergraduate career, up to 4 years.

Program Requirements

Presidential Scholars are required to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 and complete at least 30 hours of coursework each year to remain eligible.

While we encourage the majority of these hours to be taken at UT Austin, Presidential Scholars can use AP, Credit-By-Exam, transfer credit hours in order to add up to the 30 hour requirement.

Campus Networking

A benefit of being a Presidential Scholar is the support our students receive to perform and grow academically. We provide guidance for students to meet with professors, take advantage of learning resources, and connect with the UT community. We also help students track their degree progress and stay on track to graduate. Scholars benefit from a dedicated team to help them navigate the institution.
