Dave Hamrick Concluding Leadership at UT Press

Dear faculty colleagues,

Dave Hamrick has decided to conclude his tenure as director of UT Press, effective December 31, 2019. Robert Devens has agreed to assume the role of interim director.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Dave for everything he has done and accomplished during his tenure. He joined UT Press in 2001 and was named director in 2011. He has built a strong reputation across the campus and among the faculty, and his steady hand has helped to strengthen the impact of the press during a period of challenges for university presses.

Jim Cox, who has worked closely with Dave during the past five years, had this to say about Dave’s contributions.

“My colleagues and I often say that the UT Press Faculty Advisory Committee is the best committee assignment on campus, and that’s a testament to Dave and his leadership. He has earned the respect of faculty by providing them the resources and expertise they need in order to publish scholarship that advances their careers and fields of study. Under Dave’s leadership, UT Press has initiated efforts to find publishing partners in other parts of the world, which expands our collective reach and impact. He has guided the press forward and has maintained its hard-earned reputation as one of the best in the country during a difficult period for academic publishers. The university owes him a debt of thanks.”

UT Press Faculty Advisory Committee, 2014-2020 (Chair, 2016-2017)

During the coming weeks, my office will begin planning to launch a national search to identify candidates to lead UT Press. I appreciate Robert’s willingness to assume the responsibility of leading UT Press during this transition.

Please join me in thanking Dave for his leadership and service.

Sincerely,
